Creating your First Website

Creating a website is usually a complicated and daunting project, requiring knowledge of HTML and advanced skills using expensive web development software, as well as artistic or design skills. Getting Started

There are three things you will need to get started: First you will need to acquire a domain, then setup an account with a hosting company and finally you will need to install Subdreamer CMS.

Step 1 - Domain

The domain is the address people type into a browser to reach your website, here are two examples:

www.mywebsite.com
www.theawesomeblog.com

Most sites that sell domain names are pretty much the same, just be careful not to add extra services that are unneeded. The final cost of the domain should be less than $15. Here is a nice site that sells cheap domains: http://www.discounted-domains.com

Step 2 - Hosting

Your website will have a domain or an address on the internet. People will be able to access your website by typing in your website address: ie www.mywebsite.com. This website and its files will be maintained and stored by your hosting company. There are many hosting companies to choose from, please take a look at our hosting page for recommendations.

Step 3 - Subdreamer CMS

When you have completed steps 1 and 2 you will have a domain plus hosting for your website. The next step is to create your website. Don't worry, you do not need to have any design skills or experience with programming. This is where Subdreamer CMS comes in and does the work for you.

Using pre-created templates and designs (we call them "skins"), you will be able to log into your admin panel and fill in the blanks to customize your website.

Your website can be as big or as small as you choose. You will be able to upload photos, create content like news articles, have a guestbook and more. All changes and modifications will be done in your admin panel, available in your web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox etc). Then with the click of your mouse, these changes will appear on your website.
