View Full Version : How to install and test on existing website

Hi, this might be a stupid question, but I'll ask anyway:

I'm testing Subdreamer Light on a local machine, but would like to upload all files to an existing website without interrupting the site currently running. Can I just upload all files to a subdirectory, run the installation and when I'm finished with setup and testing just move all files and folders one level up - to the top directory?

Shouldn't be a problem I guess? I've looked at most of the database, and it doesn't seem to have any file paths hard coded (and not in the skin either).

Also, if I installed in the top directory I guess people would see the install page if they visited the site before I had the chance to delete the installation directory?

(Oh, and feel free to move this thread to the 'how to' section if that's a more appropriate place... ;))

Yup :)

Subdreamer will only redirect to the install page if it hasn't been installed.

Thanks. Would it be an idea to put some information about this in your documentation? And... do you never sleep?? ;)

That's a good idea. I really have to finish the manual!
There is always so much work to be done, never enough time for sleep ;)

Maybe some of the forum members could help you. I'm sure someone would like that... (maybe, documentation is very dull...)
